Sarasota is considered by many to be the culture
center of Florida. The Arts play a big role in the Sarasota community and
life style. John and Mable Ringling made their winter home here and their
legacy lives on through the famed
Ringling Museum of Art which is located on
the Ringling estate along with their 30 room mansion, Ca'D'Zan, and the
Ringling Circus Museum. Sarasota also host the Ringling School of Art.

Sarasota's many theaters of performing arts
rival that of any larger city. The Florida State
University Center for the Performing Arts (formerly the Asolo Center) is an
outstanding regional theater, as well as a teaching conservatory. The
Sarasota Opera Association presents four operas in February and March.
Sarasota's well known orchestra, the
Florida West Coast Symphony, presents a
stunning season with several internationally renowned guests. The Van Wezel
Performing Arts Hall is known for its

in southwest coastal Florida by collecting, preserving, and interpreting
objects and traditions significant to our region's past. A visit to Spanish
Point is like taking a time machine and working your way back
4000 years in the region's history. Everything from burial mounds to sunken
